New initiative gives town retailers an ‘online boost’

16 September 2020

A NEW networking initiative, which is currently seeing the Windsor Bakery partner with other Banbridge businesses online to raise the profile of local retailers, has been given the thumbs up.

A spokesperson for the Newry Street bakery commented: “The last six months have seen many changes for our business and many others in the area.

“We wanted to give something back to our customers, to thank them for their support over these very challenging times.

“During lockdown we found social media essential for communicating with our customers.

“We also wanted to recognise the many businesses we either supply or purchase from locally.

“With this in mind we came up with the idea of a weekly Facebook competition, #Banbridge Gives Back, where we partner with another local company.

“Each week we will showcase the business we have partnered with by sharing their Facebook posts, with the aim of raising the ‘likes’ for both pages.

“This will culminate in a December #BGB Christmas Hamper where every business will contribute.

“The response from other businesses in the area has been unbelievable, and we have two months’ worth of competitions lined up already.”

Local businesses taking part in the first few weeks are the Patrisse, Linen Hill Kitchen & Bar, Bann Stationers and Fred Elliott Butchers.

Alliance councillor, Brian Pope, who is chairman of the council’s Economic Development & Regeneration Committee, welcomed the retail scheme.

He commented: “I am delighted to welcome this new initiative for Banbridge.

“It shows local businesses working together and supporting each other.

“The last few months have been difficult for many traders in the area due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is, therefore, important to support schemes which encourage people to shop local and make use of digital online resources.

“I look forward to learning of many more innovative and creative business ideas in Banbridge and the wider area.”
